Abstract

Lagos Lagoon is among the mast polluted water bodies in sub-Saharan Africa. lt is extensively polluted at the harbour by seepages ram oil discharge terminals, spent lubricating oil from the adjoining drainage stem, domestic and industrial effluents in fhe highly polluted Lagos metropolis, and accasiona spillage from the Niger Delta where crude oil exploration is widgely done. Analysis for the presence of 16 priority polynucleor aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) .were carried in water samples of the Lagos lagoon. The determination and quantification of the PAH's were done by means of soxtec extractor followed by GC-FID.
